Liberia

 Liberia
Newest mail: 28 July, 2011

Country #150!!! And all this within a few months! Well, I have to admit that I hadn't really expected as many postcards in that very short time. But here it is: all the way from Monrovia, the capital city of Liberia, the postcard finally arrived from the 150th country!
The capital was named after the US president James Monroe, because he was probably the most prominent supporter of the colonization of Liberia.
In the postcard you can see two cute Liberian kids "sharing a joke" as it reads in the back. Well, I'm not sure whether these kids actually knew that they'd be one of the emblems of the country let alone they'd be shown in a Hungarian postcard collector's blog to the whole world...
Anyway, there are nice stamps on the back showing the present president, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the "Mother of the Nation".

Mali

 Mali
Newest mail: 1 August, 2011

"In the morning light" the postcard description reads... The postcard came from Bamako, the capital city of Mali. It is a landlocked country in Western Africa and although it's a very poor country it abounds in gold and uranium, which automatically raises the question: if a country has supplies of such strategic resources, why are the people so poor that half of them live below the international poverty line...?
Interestingly, Mali launched its first Fashion Week this year and it'll take place in Bamako from 12-18 December, 2011. Should you be interested in fashion then, it's Mali where you should go! But if you're there, don't forget to send me another nice postcard! :)

Slovenia

 Slovenia
Newest mail: 9 August, 2011

My very first mail from Slovenia was posted exactly two weeks earlier then this one. But look at the difference! While the first one was a blank envelope with only a self-adhesive on it, this marvellous postcard proves that Slovenia has true wonders, indeed! The small picture in the middle shows Ljubljana, and this is where the postcard was sent from. The cancellation is excellent and the stamps are a beautiful bouquet of flowers!

Greece

 Greece
Newest mail: 8 August, 2011

Greece has always been close to my heart, (although I haven't been there yet) because at university we had to  master the language. I mean, the ancient Greek, not the modern one! Anyway, this postcard leads us back to the early 5th century BC, so precisely the time when they spoke the language I learnt (although it's a bit rusty now). Even in the stamp you can see something from the ancient times: a Greek trireme! These ancient warships were the best vehicles in naval warfare between the 7th and 4th centuries BC.
And where did the postcard come from? From Magoula, Sparta!!

Belgium

 Belgium
Newest mail: 12 August, 2011

As usual, letters from Belgium tend to have nice stamps on them, and this mail is no exception. Posted from Liége, the envelope has two EUROPA stamps and another stamp featuring a kind of perch

Singapore

 Singapore
Newest mail: 10 August, 2011

Perhaps you remember that my very first mail from Singapore was not a very successful one considering that it was a blank envelope with a self-adhesive instead of stamps. Now, this one is a real treat! Not only the stamps and the cancellation are of excellent quality, but the postcard itself was made of two "Hong baos", which are red envelopes presented at social and family gatherings such as the Lunar New Year. Why are they red? Well, red colour symbolizes good luck and is supposed to ward off evil spirits! Well, honestly, I definitely feel lucky to have such a beautiful postcard! :) As for the evil spirits... even if there had been any around, now I don't have to worry about them either... :)

Belarus

 Belarus
Newest mail: 10 August, 2011

The next postcard came from Minsk, Belarus, and was posted on 10th August, 2011. The cute, little stamps on the envelope show some of the flora and fauna of the country and the postcard inside features the chrurch of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. Thanks, Maria!

Montenegro

 Montenegro
Newest mail: 9 August, 2011

The postcard above came from Montenegro, a beautiful and quite new country that I got the last mail from when it was formed. I really love this postcard because it shows that a country doesn't have to be big to have such wonders as Sveti Stefan on the coast of Montenegro. However, that's just one side of the country. As it is shown in the stamps Montenegro abounds in beautiful hills and mountains. The postcard has become perfect with the excellent cancellation and a cute sticker. Thanks to Ivana!

New Caledonia

 New Caledonia
Newest mail: 5 August, 2011

New mails have arrived! The first one is a giant pack of postcards in a neat envelope coming from Koumac, New Caledonia. I like this country pretty much, because of the name. It's a Latin word for Scotland (in case you didn't know Latin was one of my majors at university). Rumour has it that Captain Cook named the island this way because it somehow reminded him of Scotland. Well, the postcards below will surely prove that there's hardly any resemblance between the two countries... :)

I put this bird last in the list. It's supposed to be the nuptial dance or intimidating behaviour of a bird that can't fly... If I were a bird, I'd definitely fancy that... :)

Cape Verde

 Cape Verde
Newest mail: 2 August, 2011

This truly beautiful postcard was sent from Mindelo, Cape Verde, on 2nd August, 2011 as it can clearly be read on the cancellation. Mindelo is an awesome port city surrounded by mountains in Sao Vicente Island. The postcard itself, however, shows Pombas, another Cape Verdean city in Santo Antao Island. Pity that people are leaving this beautiful island because of the low living standards.
The stamps feature the 2010 South African World Cup and the fight against alcoholism. Thanks to Sasha!

Sierra Leone

 Sierra Leone
Newest mail: 16 July, 2011

This  mail was sent from an extremely rare country, Sierra Leone, on 16th July, 2011. There are half a dozen stamps on the envelope featuring the British Council that has been operating in the country for 60 years. The cancellations are in the top left corner showing that the letter was sent by Salpost from Freetown, the capital city of the country.

Uganda

 Uganda
Newest mail: 28 July, 2011

This mail was sent from Lugazi but then got a cancellation in Kampala, the capital city of Uganda on 28th July, 2011. The cancellations are easy to read and the stamps feature the flora and fauna of the country as well as animal husbandry.

Mauritania

 Mauritania
Newest mail: 3 August, 2011

This registered mail was sent from Nouakchott, the capital city of Mauritania, on 3rd August, 2011. Although it's stampless (and I'm looking forward to a postcard with stamps on it), it is really hard to get any letter from this rare country. At least the cancellations are clearly legible on the envelope...

Barbados

 Barbados
Newest mail: 29 July, 2011

I got this marvellous letter from Bridgetown (Brittons Hill), Barbados. According to the clear cancellation it was posted on 29th July, 2011. The main theme of the stamps are the fruits of the country. Thanks to Ethnie!

Inside the envelope I found three postcards about Barbados.

Thailand

 Thailand
Newest mail: 29 July, 2011

This letter was sent from Thailand on 29th July, 2011. It's not very exciting, it just has the usual self-adhesive on the envelope with the elephant and her cute calves.

England

 England
Newest mail: 8 August, 2011

This letter was sent from West Hougam in Kent, England on 8th August 2011. If I'm not very much mistaken it is one of those villages that we drove through on our way to the cliffs of Dover in June...! The stamp features one of the Railway Series, Toby. Thanks to Jan!

Canada

 Canada
Newest  mail: 3 August, 2011

Exactly 2 months after the previous letter from Canada I got another one. This came from Gatineau, and was posted on 3rd August, 2011. As you might have expected the stamp features the royal wedding... :)

Bermuda

 Bermuda
Newest mail: 4 July, 2011

Although not the first mail from Bermuda, definitely the newest posted on 2nd August, 2011. The postcard shows Fort St Catherine and in the back the cancellation is very clear and the stamp features a Purple Sea Snail. Thanks to Vihlai!
